Zenko-ji Temple O-asaji Taxi Plan

Start your day by attending the "O-asaji" morning service, held every day at Zenko-ji Temple. Even in the early morning before public transit starts running, travel comfortably round-trip by private charter taxi from Nagano Station or hotels nearby. After being dropped off near the Niomon Gate, walk along the stone-paved approach enveloped in crisp morning air toward the Main Hall. Participate in the morning Buddhist services conducted by both the Tendai and Jodo denominations as the monks' chanting and prayers echo through the hall. Choose between a standard round-trip transfer course, or an extended course that includes a post-service guided tour around the temple grounds with an officially certified Zenko-ji guide sharing insights on the temple's history and spiritual traditions. Experience a truly special moment embracing the serene and solemn morning atmosphere of Zenko-ji, distinctly different from daytime visits. After your visit, you will be driven back to Nagano Station or your hotel.

Taxi Transfers Timed to the Oasaji Morning Service

We will pick you up to match the start time of the Oasaji morning service. Enjoy a comfortable taxi ride to Zenko-ji from Nagano Station or surrounding hotels.

Upon arrival, you can experience Zenko-ji's historic "Oasaji" morning service.

Zenko-ji Oasaji Morning Service & O-juzu Chodai Rosary Blessing

Held every morning at sunrise in the Zenko-ji Main Hall, the "Oasaji" is a solemn Buddhist morning service. Spend a serene, sacred morning as the sutra chanting by monks of both the Tendai and Jodo sects resonates throughout the hall.

Before and after the service, the ritual of "O-juzu Chodai" takes place: the head priest gently strokes the heads of worshippers kneeling along the approach with prayer beads, bestowing merit and blessings. It offers a rare and precious opportunity to experience the unique living traditions of Zenko-ji Temple.

【Guided Visit with a Zenko-ji Certified Guide】

A valuable experience allowing you to deeply learn about the history and culture of Zenko-ji while listening to detailed explanations of its renowned highlights and hidden Buddha statues. Enjoy Zenko-ji from a special, enriching perspective.

【Shinshu Zenko-ji Permanent Shukubo

A historic temple lodging (shukubo) that has welcomed worshippers visiting Zenko-ji for approximately 1,400 years. Located within the temple grounds, it has offered hospitality to pilgrims across centuries. On the "Tour with Zenko-ji Certified Guide Plan," a certified Zenko-ji guide affiliated with Gyokusho-in will provide an in-depth, attentive introduction to the history, faith, and key highlights of Zenko-ji.

Zenko-ji Maedachi Honzon Gokaicho (Sacred Image Exhibition)

Held once every seven years, the "Gokaicho" is Zenko-ji’s grandest festival. During this ceremony, the "Maedachi Honzon"—a replica that serves as the sacred substitute for the absolute secret principal image—is welcomed into the Main Hall, granting visitors a rare opportunity to behold its divine form. Touching the Eko-bashira (sacred pillar) erected in front of the Main Hall is a precious ritual believed to form a direct karmic connection with the Buddha.
