Zenkoji Temple and Togakushi Tour with a Premium Sightseeing Taxi

Starting from Nagano Station, this one-day retreat journeys through sacred sites where spiritual belief and nature intertwine—from Benzaiten Shrine at Zenkoji Temple, dedicated to the deity of water, to the Okusha (Inner Shrine) of Togakushi Shrine.

Travel is arranged by a private sightseeing taxi (Toyota Alphard). Throughout the entire journey, you will be accompanied by Naohiro Orihara, a “through-guide” specializing in connecting nature and culture, with extensive experience as a storyteller of national parks and Japan’s spiritual traditions.

The journey begins quietly at Benzaiten, nestled within the Zenkoji Temple grounds. After offering prayers to the water deity, the route continues to the Togakushi area within Myoko-Togakushi Renzan National Park.
Here, you will visit Togakushi Shrine Chusha, the spring-fed Nenbutsu Pond, and enjoy a full-course lunch at awai Togakushi, a restaurant deeply rooted in harmony with nature.

In the afternoon, walk along the approach to Togakushi Shrine Okusha, concluding the “pilgrimage of water” at Kuzuryusha Shrine.
The experience culminates at Kagami Pond, where the serene reflection of the Togakushi mountain range offers a quiet moment to face both nature and your own inner self.

Naohiro Orihara (Through-Guide)

A highly experienced and certified guide, Naohiro Orihara has served as an official guide in iconic destinations such as the Canadian Rockies and Yellowknife.
His background includes planning and guiding experience with Hoshino Resorts, as well as service as a Senior Officer at Japan’s Ministry of the Environment, where he was involved in promoting the sustainable use of national parks.

Deeply knowledgeable in both nature and tourism, he now works nationwide as a tourism content developer and DMO advisor, creating immersive experiences that connect natural landscapes with local culture.

Through his insightful storytelling and deep understanding, Orihara transforms the sacred, nature-worshipping land of Togakushi into a journey that feels deeply personal—inviting guests to experience the destination not as observers, but as participants in its living narrative.

Zenkoji Temple – Benzaiten Shrine

Tucked away from the bustle of the main hall, this small shrine stands quietly in a space of deep calm.
Dedicated to Benzaiten, the deity of water, this sacred spot is regarded as the “source of the spiritual waterway” that connects the faith of Zenkoji with that of Togakushi.

By offering prayers here and gently aligning the state of the mind, this moment serves as a meaningful introduction—guiding your awareness from the ordinary into the extraordinary, and opening the journey with intention and reflection.

Togakushi Area | Myoko–Togakushi Renzan National Park

Shaped by the sacred Mount Togakushi, this awe-inspiring landscape of deep forests and flowing water embodies a world where nature itself is revered.
The approaches leading to Chusha, Okusha, and Kuzuryusha allow you to experience the profound sense that the natural environment is, in itself, a sacred realm.

At Kagami Pond, where the Togakushi mountain range is reflected upon the still surface of the water, a slow, deep breath brings a sense of quiet that settles from within—offering a serene and contemplative conclusion to the day.

awai Togakushi (Full-Course Lunch)

Ingredients nurtured by Togakushi’s water, soil, and light are thoughtfully brought together on each plate, with careful attention paid to the quiet voice of the ingredients themselves.
Enjoyed at awai Togakushi, a restaurant that blends seamlessly into the surrounding forest, this full-course meal allows you to taste Togakushi’s philosophy of living in harmony with nature.

Encountered along the pilgrimage, it is a blessing of a lunch that gently awakens all five senses.
