This lake suddenly appeared on the morning of June 6, 1915 (Taisho 4). It was formed when Mount Yakedake erupted violently, and the massive mudflow that erupted dammed the Azusa River. The submerged forest became fantastically dead standing trees, creating a mysterious landscape.

Kappa Bridge is synonymous with Kamikochi, and Kamikochi is synonymous with Kappa Bridge.
